I started a second job here with a company called GoodLiving Tech. it is a small company that does house to house computer repair. I had three calls to do yesterday that had me running all around town and I have some more work with him tomorrow. They are paying me $20/hr on a part time/on-call basis. The owner of the company thinks I am great there.

Basically the company has been around for a few years – there was him and 3 other part time technicians. He did a large marketing push this last week, and all but hired me on the spot. I seemed to prove myself to him so well that the only reason he is hiring another tech is to cover for me when I head out to Edmonton in January.

Overall, I think that I have a really good shot with this company. Things seem to be going really well.

Finished the day with Avatar screening in 3-D.

So busy weekend.

In the midst of packing and cleaning, I had to take Museless to the ferry so he can start his trek to Australia. It was hard saying good bye; I will miss him for sure. At least we got a good gaming session and coffee session in before he left.

I am working on almost no sleep. Between cleaning, packing and final hang out sessions sleep has fallen by the wayside. Tomorrow afternoon though we get our new place.

This is a big thing for me, I have never lived in a place with out roommates, and I couldn’t be happier about finally getting a place with Kate. We are both really excited.

Kate started her new job today. Should be good for her. It definitely is more her style.

Clouds paint the sky grey and silver, causing a dreamy feeling to wash down over me, like the showers that hang in the air. But instead of enjoying the weather, I sit inside my blue and grey cube with none of the diffuse sunlight in sight.

I am missing having a full weekend off, Split days leave little time to do anything. With the exception of Sundays, one of us is always working, and of course on opposite schedules as well. I find that our days off get too packed with things, that we either get nothing done, or have a harder time finding a day to relax.

We finally made it to the beach last week. The salt air, cool waters and burning sand was revitalizing. Sail boats lined the horizon, and sunbathers line the sand. I forgot how salty the sea is. We came back, covered in sand and salt, and with a memory card full of photos.

To finish of the day at the beach, we had a Mediterranean inspired meal. Pork stuffed with Spinach, feta and pepper, Hummus and pita, Feta Spinach pastries. All finished with a lemon shisha. The meal was deceptively colourless. All pale and greys and yellows. But one bite into a pastry or patty, and the colour and flavour poured out. Vibrant greens and reds quickly took over the plate. as we savoured our patio meal.

From there we went down to the Inner Harbour to watch the Symphony play. They were set up on a barge, in front of the Legislative grounds. The night ended with Fireworks to the 1812 Overture. The music was great, but the fireworks were rather lack luster.

This week hasn’t been the best on our bikes, Kate’s gears shattered on her Wednesday afternoon. My rear tire is blown. Tomorrow we will have to try and patch together the bicycles. Hopefully it won’t be too difficult to repair.

Every day, one of my coworkers comes in with a black coffee maker, two containers of sugar and a bottle of milk, and another container of fragrant coffee. And he makes java twice while we’re working-one for when we first get there, and a fresh pot for 2nd break. It’s good coffee, somehow better than I could ever do, even though it’s just ordinary. Sometimes another coworker offers a flavoured coffee to use instead of the normal grounds. Then the scent of vanilla or hazelnut wafts over us as we work.

It’s become a little treat-one small thing to look forward to on shift, and we really miss it when my coworker doesn’t show up. We complain and grumble at the lack of the fresh hot coffee, when he’s not there, more so than the fact that we now also have to do his workload. It’s the java we miss, the caffeine fix, the ritual of finding a mug that fits our hand, or our mood, or using the only blue glass mug, which looks like a photograph all the time and is really such an art piece even though it’s only unadorned, coloured glass.

It makes the shift a little more manageable, a little more fragrant, after all.

I  have my bike up and running again. I love being able to take to the road, coast down a hill and let the wind cause jackets and hats to billow. So tomorrow will be “ride to work: take two.”

On other news, I have a new job – back to being a phone jockey. I will be starting as soon as some leg work is done. With any luck that will be Wednesday. It will be nice to be doing work I actually want to do.

I am looking forward to taking the bikes out on more of a ride. With any luck we will be hitting one of the trails come Saturday – not sure which way we will take it yet. Hopefully we will get some photos, and I will figure out how to add them to the posts.

on break today, there was a young crow that couldn’t fly yet, that wandered behind a garbage bin and got stuck. It parents were making a huge fuss and racket as one of my coworkers went to help, and managed to shoo it out.  And as he’s walking back to us, one of the young crow’s parents comes swooping at my co worker’s head, and only barely pulls up at the last minute. We all thought this crow was going to take a swipe at him.

Turns out there was a pair of young ones, twins possibly, who proceeded to sit docilely on a ledge by the garbage can while their parents watched/scolded from above.

plus, got off work early and the wharf was lively with mimes and music and colour. And living statues.
